Running on 3 cylinders and making lots of whitish smoke, smells like diesel the smoke does,

Tell me I just need too turn a screw or something....

Re: I'm hoping one of you will.....

Black smoke =diesel

White smoke ......... water

Is it loosing water??

Get a sniffer test done on the coolant

Re: I'm hoping one of you will.....

no hasnt over heated, and water seems ok,

Re: I'm hoping one of you will.....

Have you put a injector cleaner through it ......Quick cheat , take off fuel filter  empty and refill with red-x reconnect  add the rest to the tank and run

If it sounds like it's running on three cylinders, blue/white smoke, smells of diesel, black smoke when throttle opened..........

It's either dropped valve or one of the injectors isn't working.

Is the engine making a loud ticking noise, like Mitsy's did?

#1124-10-2010 17:56:02

Re: I'm hoping one of you will.....

there is a clanking noise, more of a metallic noise... like low oil,

I have, I'll be back when I've trawled through Photobucket.

Re: I'm hoping one of you will.....

I'd undo each injector in turn and see which one dosn't make any difference, thats the one to concentrate on, then compression test it and go from there.

If its got compression then get the injectors serviced, if not then the heads going to have to come off to see whats going on.

I stuck open injector will make it knock and smoke, but like Vince said also suspect a blocked one or valve problems.

Check all the easy stuff first, fuel, air, vacuum pipes etc...

Re: I'm hoping one of you will.....

Right just checked engine, cracked each injector then closed and went for breakfast,

Came back started engine, everything perfect,

Try each injector one at a time, each one created a miss,

so I still don't know where I stand now???

Pulled the fault codes and got 8 flashes,

so now to find fault codes....

Plug the sensor back into the airfilter housing's outlet.

LOL.

Do you have anyone who can compression test it?

Have you done the EGR mod? if so check the EGR isn't jammed open, try and block it where goes into the inlet manifold. Also check the throttle butterfly valves, close it manually, and the truck should struggle to idle, if it makes no difference the vacuum pipes might be wrong or split.

#2325-10-2010 12:32:55

Re: I'm hoping one of you will.....

I will check to see of when mod is done, and check butterfly,

#2425-10-2010 15:02:16

Re: I'm hoping one of you will.....

right, latest update, no EGR blanking plates installed (being fabricated tomorrow)

little rubber hose that goes onto the top egr at the back of engine bay has a small bolt stuck in it....

took throttle body apart and wiped and cleaned buttery, holding it up to sunshine there is a bit of light coming through it,

i take it, EGR valve is the small butteryfly valve?? if so it works its working fine,

any idea if there is meant to be a hose attached to that,

its a 2.4td EFI engine???
