Classic / old hifi for the hoarders out there!

The shed's getting too full, it's not allowed to live in the house, so it needs to go! Most stuff would have to be collected due to weight, but you're welcome to arrange your own courier.

Mainly stuff that I intended to refurb at some time, but too many hobbies means this is on hold indefinately. Pics on request.

These aren't pics of mine just from t'internet (don't have any but will supply on request)

Leak Stereo 30 (I have 2 of these!) Working last time I looked but pots could do with a clean as a bit scratchy. £20 each

http://www.choice-hifi.com/images/gallery/thumb_Stereo30%20front(1).JPG

Goodmans Magnum K (Pair). Awesome sounding big speaker (12" bass drivers) which compare well to a lot of modern stuff. Cabs are a bit scuffed, but would paint or stain OK - £30. (I've seen these sell for hundreds in the USA!) SOLD

Musical Fidelity Electra CD player - not working. Lovely powerful sounding CD player - FREE if you arrange pick up. Far to nice to bin!

I have several other items which I'll add when I get home, including a lovely and quite rare 1970s Goodmans Receiver which would go lovely with the Magnums!

And there's more!

Goodmans Module 80 Stereo Receiver. Lovely condition for its age. Perfect with the Magnums! £25

http://www.fritzdorfer.de/images/hifi_musik/hifi_galerie/goodmans_module_80.jpg

Aiwa AD-F410 Cassette deck. Yes, I know. Cassette schmassette, but hey, your bikes are as old as cassettes! £15

http://images1.okr.ro/auctions.v3/700_700/2011/01/25/8/4/663593985567403922207681-5553157-700_700.jpg

Aiwa AD-6550 Cassette deck. This one's a beauty, proper retro with levers for operation and moving coil VU meters! Needs a set of belts, still available from specialists - and probably eBay! £25

http://www.radiomuseum.org/images/radio/aiwa_co_ltd_tokyo/stereo_cassette_deck_ad_6550_553931.jpg

Jordan Watts GT MkIII loudspeakers. Radical (for BITD) slimline, designed to be wall mounted. Cabs a bit scuffed. £20

http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/uploads/16/103568_thumb_df06254820b055b56a9236c05711f4ae.jpg

Wharfedale Linton Mk1 loudspeakers. Well known and reliable. Cabs a bit scuffed etc, but sound great. £15

http://i.ebayimg.com/00/$(KGrHqJ,!lQE5YyoCm0wBOWogPIycg~~60_35.JPG

Wharfedale Laser 30 Loudspeakers. Nice compact bookshelf speakers. Rather good nick for their vintage! £15

http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/7/2/6/0/5/0/webimg/486913591_tp.jpg

Acoustic Energy AE2 Loudspeakers. The piece de resistance! These were VERY expensive BITD (google them). They are in reasonable cosmetic condition, but the bass unit surrounds are decayed - a common issue with these. I have bought 4 new surrounds but haven't fitted them. A little work will see these  rockin again! There's a pair of these on 2nd hand hifi site 'Choice HiFi' for £995 at the moment! I'd like £100.SOLD

All of the above are subject to offers!

Re: Classic / old hifi for the hoarders out there!

I want it all!!!

Seriously, my two favourite things are vintage stuff and hifi.  The problem is I live in a small flat and have a girlfriend who's not overly happy with my hoarding...

Could you let me have some pictures and dimensions of the Jordan Watts and Wharfedale Linton speakers please?

Certainly will, but *roughly* the JW's are around 24" x 12" x 6" (H W D), and the Lintons are around 18" x 10" x 10" (H W D). Both sets work well with no voice coil roughness, but need cosmetic work such as cabs refinishing.

Its part of a boat where small cases are stored.

Re: Classic / old hifi for the hoarders out there!

Sadly, my latest fetish for rare and interesting bicycles and bicycle components has led to investment in bench grinder and selection of polishing wheels and bits and bobs, along with an increasing amount of old bicycles and components means something has to give.

Need house with more land for more sheds...

Sancho, will go and take pics now.

The JWs. Cabs aren't too bad at all really given their age. One front grille badge missing (covers not removable). Other than that they look good, and as I said, they work fine.

The Lintons. Cabs are a bit scuffed, but a sand and a re-laquer would sort them. Grilles and badges fully intact - maybe need a hoover! Electrically they are great, and sound as good as they did ~35 years ago! Totally original - still have the felt covered tweeters - most have been blown up and replaced with some horrid incompatible things from Maplins or Tandy.

Re: Classic / old hifi for the hoarders out there!

this has spurred me on, to make my shed a haven for all and sundry. A place to ponder lifes rich tapestry. A place to reconnect with my nearly forgotten youth.

And a place to get away from the bleedin kids for half an hour!. big_smile

Re: Classic / old hifi for the hoarders out there!

Already planned my new workshop Gra.

My lathe, pillar drill and grinder will be supplemented with a mill (preferably CNC), compressor and blasting cabinet on one side. One end will be the PC and the vinyl cutter, and probably the radios (as they need the PC as well), and the back will be racked out for storing 'collectibles' - be they bikes, radio controlled whatnots, or whatever.

It's gonna need to be big! I'm thinking pitched roof also so I can store stuff in the rafters big_smile

Just a bit. big_smile What type of size, approximately, are you planning on going to?

At the moment, it's not. whistle Got it to the 10'x16' mark and made the initial dig down from 5' to 7' or so for a small section of that, but havent touched it since.

Not sure I wont go for multiple buildings - ideally I'd like somewhere with several outbuildings - as it might be an idea to keep the 'cleaner' model plane building / vinyl cutting / electronics away from the messier metalworking / engineering type stuff.

At the moment I have approx 12' x 12' brick built two floors which is all storage and admittedly needs a good clearing out, and 12' x 8' lapped timber shed with 2" kingspan insulation throughout, which is my main workshop. There's also a couple of smaller sheds kicking around full of crap.

Re: Classic / old hifi for the hoarders out there!

Don't suppose you have any Beomaster 4000s lying around ?

#2319-10-2011 19:06:40

Re: Classic / old hifi for the hoarders out there!

Why not just clear out and use the two storey 12'x12'? Sounds like it would make an ideal split use workshop.

That's a bugger. Just out of curiosity, how big is your back garden? Sounds like it's like a Tardis. big_smile
