@matt

are you any good with the surfs electrics? you're the only person i haven't asked. but i cant get fuel past the fuel pump. i can only think its the SCV at fault. im getting power to it but no fuel passes it.

Re: @matt

But will it run on easy start?

Re: @matt

Just had a quick skim of that thread. You obviously have it running now, but it could be literally anything which has already been suggested causing it.

If it happens again, you need to approach it methodically and eliminate each suspect one by one, and stop obsessing over what you personally think it is. You might just have got diesel in one of the connectors. Replace that small O-ring on the drain tap as Nev suggested for starters. That's the easiest thing to eliminate straight off the bat. Also, get some switch cleaner and remove and clean any connectors on the I.P. Then, just see how it goes.

With regards to earth leads, any chunky cable, (use several smaller cables in parallel if necessary), bolted between block and chassis, (with good, clean connections at both ends), will give you an extra piece of mind on the ground strap front. Definitely forget the solenoid though. If it happens again and you eliminate everything else, consider that, but not before.

If I've missed owt, like I said, I only skimmed the thread.

Re: @matt

yeah got it running in the end, confuses me how a small o ring in a drain tap for the filter can prevent fuel leaving a pump. took it for a drive was ok, bit lazy on the turbo front but dont know if im thinking that because i have been driving a car the last few days.

ill see how it goes now, there is a rather nasty knocking/rattling coming from the engine now.

and, incase you know, that actuator next to the throttle body, if i push the lever towards the engine it dies instantly, is that supposed to happen?

If the fuel system isn't airtight, it's gonna suck air through instead of fuel.

Check all of the injector banjos are tightened up correctly.

Starve an engine of air or fuel and it will die. Closing the butterfly will kill the engine.

Not wanting to cause any more confusion to your little drama,and yes we all appreciate how frustrating these things can appear but did you or your good lady  happen to have fuelled up before your misfortune?

nope, was about 1/4 tank there when started, then the filter exploded. not sure if that has anything to do with the fact that someone put a 1 way valve on the pipe from tank to filter.

matt, i thought that actuator was for boost pressure release. i can see that its adjustable, so mabye i need to adjust it out a little as there is about 0.5mm movement before it kills it, i can rest my finger on it and hardly move it then it dies. might move it out 1mm.
