Seasoning wood

Just wondered if anyone had some pointers regarding the best methods for seasoning wood. Appropriated some Oak branches and Lilac bole today, and possibly going to be getting some Cherry soon, so thought it might be handy to pop it to one side and season it for possible future use.

Re: Seasoning wood

somewhere dry but not heated like the front room or maybe the hole in the ground?

If the timber has been cut stacking to allow air to circulate is good, have a look as to how cooperages store wood as my powers of description are inoperative at this time of the morning.

Re: Seasoning wood

Stacked with spacers, covered on top, open sides. Stick something (oil or wax) on the end grain to stop it drying too fast and splitting.

I find it tastes much better with freshly ground black pepper and a very light sprinkling of sea salt.
