Alloy repair

I need to repair a split on my air con condensor

I the past I have had varying degrees of sucess with a fluxless stick which used an alloy brazing stick that came with a stainless steel brush.

Can anyone recommend an alloy brazing rod preferably with a flux.

My local wholesaler eg BOC and PipeCenter have not been any help.

Any suggestions ?

No suggestions ?

I think I will mix up some flour and egg white and hope that it will set  in the cracks.

Re: Alloy repair

Got sidetracked. big_smile Your best way would be to try and collar a favour from someone with a TIG welder, but:

Re: Alloy repair

someone suggested     http://www.aluminumrepair.com

so I thought I would give it a go ,it looks like it will flow like silver solder so my gas torch skills should be up to plastering a load of pigeon shit all over the place .

If it works out ok I now have an oil cooler and intercooler to make brackets for wink (that is also a warning to be on the lookout for stupid oil cooler and intercooler questions) whistle

As much as I would have loved to have used TIG My welder budget took a massive dent.

Re: Alloy repair

I have an A/C rad here from a 3.0 if it's any good to you.

Re: Alloy repair

Pardon my ignorance  but  what is the difference between the 3.0 and 2.4 A/C rad ie size ,pipe connections

SHMBO has requested  that the air con be returned . whistle
As you know if the A/C rad goes back in its original position underslung that will cause one or two issues with filling with mud and generally being a pain in the arse for working on the front of the engine, effecting air flow around the engine and well it is just wrong.Plus I will need that space for the oil cooler and intercooler.
I have this mad idea of fitting the air con rad up on the rear chassis runners where it will be out of the way of damage and when off roading I can just put a bin bag over it,and all the heat from the A/C rad won't be a problem out the back as opposed to blowing it into a already hot engine bay.The piping for it can run down the similar route as the rear heating pipes .
I can get pipe ends made up to either sweat on or flare onto the OEM kit.

Re: Alloy repair

Won't there be a problem getting the correct gas for the a/c?

Nope wink

Although there may be some confusion outhere with regards to R12 to R134a conversions (mainly caused by incompatable oils)

The A/C rad fits behind the grille, in front of the main engine radiator on the 3.0. It's smaller than the 2.4's but the fittings are the same.
It's yours for the cost of postage or collection if you're coming this way in the near future?

Cheers Vince I think I may just take you up on the offer, having said that I am in no rush to start getting the air con back in it is a lot of pfaffing about but if  SWMBO asks about the progress then my time scale may become truncated. wink

I still have the hoses/fittings and the drier if you want/need those parts too.

Re: Alloy repair

That is mighty thin and that might just work up front of the engine rad.
I was looking at replacing the existing fan so that might all just work.Plus be a darn sight easier than plumbing in at the back.

I am booked in for Rhymney end of next week.
But if that falls through I will paypal you .
How much will you want for all the gubbins?
