Not sure it is a lemon, certainly a problem child.

Met with the dealer today, he advised me that he's paid for a new head gasket and the head was pressure tested and skimmed in addition to replacing the clutch and dmf.

He's provided me with the invoices, just shy of 2k spent with a LR specialist.

I still think the steering box is duff as at certain points when turning the wheel the steering stiffens up.noticeably.

Once that is sorted all the.major components will have been replaced and the dealer will be around £3k out of pocket.

That's about £2k more than any Disco's worth  whistle ?
I must admit that your choice of motor transport surprises me . I suppose you can be forgiven for the Alfa's (Big boys toys) but a Disco as a work horse? give me a break. Get a Land Cruiser, preferably an Amazon. They are reliable with astronomical mileage available with  sensible routine maintenance.

Re: Another MOT under it's belt

Standard land cruiser service was change gearbox oil.......it was not uncommon to have several gear teeth and shards of metal on the drain plug magnet when doing it.

And yet there was no problem with the box...still quiet and easy to engage gears......strange.

It's a fair point Brummie and I did consider buying one but they are just so huge and I wanted to spend a certain amount now and that put a decent lc A out of my reach. I may review that if the disco gives me any issues once the dealers cheque book is no longer available.
